The Youth Services Department is dedicated to working with, assisting, and encouraging youth within the HACA properties to maximize their independence and integration into the community.

As a team, we work to effect lasting change in the community for our youth and young adults by arranging formal and informal social opportunities to boost community engagement. We meet with young people to help discover and encourage interests. Through our different programs, we encourage continued engagement in school to increase secondary and post-secondary education. As a department, we participate in community activities, model life skills, foster job readiness and outreach within the HACA communities, building opportunities, and promoting positive relationships.

Our Afterschool Enrichment Program focuses on improving the learning experience of students who come to us each day. We work to build upon standard core learning at school and help struggling students meet school standards and learning expectations. Children are inspired to develop a healthy lifestyle, creative initiative, establish goals that foster educational and mental growth. We also provide fun and engaging activities for students to boost their academic performance and motivate them to develop their math, reading, writing, critical thinking, and science skills. Both of our community centers at Harbour House /Eastport Terrace and Robinwood have a thriving mentoring program with girls and boys ages 11 – 18 years old. The Educational and Athletic Specialists meet 2-3 days per week as a group and with one-on-one sessions to establish long and short-term goals, each aligned to help support each student's growth and development. Students are encouraged to challenge themselves academically and socially. Some past sessions have included financial literacy, budgeting, SAT/ACT Preparation, resume preparation and completing employment applications, completing the FAFSA application, and improving writing skills, to name a few.
